- Monkeypox infection is a Poxviridae zoonotic disease
- It belongs to the genus Orthopoxvirus
- The natural reservoirs are possibly small mammals and primates
- It is transmitted by close physical and sexual contact
- It is also spread by respiratory droplets, blood, and semen
- The incubation period is 7-21 days
- It is a mild infection and most cases recover in weeks
