Ulnar nerve anatomy

  • The ulnar nerve is formed from the C8 and T1 spinal nerve roots
  • It arises from the medial cord of the brachial plexus
  • It passes between the triceps and brachialis muscles in the arm
  • It traverses the cubital tunnel at elbow
  • It then passes between the two heads of flexor carpi ulnaris in the forearm
  • It terminally divides into deep motor and superficial sensory branches in the distal forearm
