Major features on MRI and CT

  • Extra-axial circumscribed lesions
  • Broad based attachment to the dura mater (dural tail)
  • Usually single: they are multiple in about 9% of cases
  • Hypo- or isointense on T1-weighted MRI
  • Iso- or hyperintense on T2-weighted MRI
  • CSF cleft between tumour and brain: this shows as a T2-weighted crescent
  • Brain oedema adjacent to the tumour
  • Vessel flow voids and enhancement: within the lesion and peripherally
  • Prominent central vascular pedicle with radiating smaller vessels
  • Avid contrast enhancement on CT and MRI
  • Low apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC)
