Clinical features
- Recurrent episodes of reduced responsiveness
- The onset is with drowsiness
- This is followed by staggering and behavioural abnormalities
- Deep sleep ensues: subjects may be aroused by vigorous stimuli
- There may be associated jerky movements
- Recovery is often spontaneous
- There is post-ictal amnesia
- Subjects are normal between episodes
